Seller Description

Selling my collection of antique motorcycles. Impeccably maintained 1941 Indian model 541 - aka the Indian Junior Scout or the "thirty-fifty" motorcycle. It is 30.50 cubic inches (500 cc).

Starts, runs
and rides beautifully and is an absolute joy to drive. I have an Indian 101 Scout (which some feel is the best Indian ever made) and this bike handles every bit as well as the 101 Scout does in my opinion. Smaller engine size and low center of gravity make it a dream to drive. Engine is very strong - lots of compression and
does not burn any oil. I have actually hand-started this motorcycle just to give you an idea as to how easy it is to start (compared to kicking over a Chief for example). Mileage is listed as 1234 miles, but actual mileage is unknown since the Junior Scouts did not come with speedometers. I do have some history on this bike with previous owners and indications that the motor internals were completely rebuilt. I believe it - it performs like a champ. Lately the Junior Scouts have really come into their own - some of the finer examples have been fetching north of $30k at the big auction houses like Mecum. As you can tell from the pictures, the engine and transmission have the proper nickel plating. The only thing I can identify as not original is the that the rear fender struts were doubled up (there is another piece of metal behind each one) to make the rear fender more rigid. Looks like it would be easy to remove the extra doublers for the purists - but like it sits it is nice and sturdy. Since I have had
it I have done the following:
Installed the proper (and hard to find) Linkert 541 carburetor (specifically for this model)
Brand new clutch linings installed (BTW - the Junior scouts have a dry clutch, so no leaky primary cases)Added proper Indian Script carburetor air cover
Valves adjusted per factory specs
Engine and transmission oil changed religiously
6 volt lithium-ion battery
All chrome is in great shape.
Tires are in great shape as well with plenty of tread. Headlight is nice
and bright and tail light works well. Horn is nice and loud. Generator output is adjusted to charge
properly with all lights on (in Illinois lights are required at all times, so I
adjusted the generator output to match the power needed for the lights).
Have clear Illinois title in my name.
I would be happy to answer any
questions you may have. If you are in the Oswego, IL area you are more
than welcome to give it a personal inspection. If you need any closeup shots, let me know and I can do that as well. I tried to get some pics in different lighting but would be happy to take any additional shots you like. I have 3 keys for the ignition that will be included.

locally so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. On May-21-19 at 21:21:02 PDT, seller added the following information:Just to be clear, this is a MATCHING NUMBERS motorcycle. The VIN number listed above came over from my '48 Chief that is also listed on eBay as I used it as a template for this one. I am including pics of the numbers - frame number is hard to pick up with the camera but a flashlight and human eye can see it clearly Here are the numbers for this motorcycle:
Engine number: EDA678 EDA=1941 30.50 Jr. Scout #678Frame number: [hidden information] 541=Model 541 #678
