A beautifully restored 1961 Ferrari 250 California
Spyder which was builtby Modena
Design & Development inEl Cajon,CA, the company that created
the iconic car for the 1986 movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
Modena Design & Development was in business
from 1986 through 1988 and this GT 0001 was the first production car produced of
the approximate 52 cars that were produced and has been authenticated by Mr. Neil Glassmoyer,
President of Modena Design & Development. This makes the car recognizable,
rare, and an opportunity to acquire a unique and rather unusual piece of
Ferrari-related history & American popular culture. In March 2018 the Modena
California Spyder was added to the National Historic Vehicle Register in
recognition of their significance in American automotive history. A custom fiberglass body fitted on a custom
rectangular steel tube and boxframe with a 302 V8 Ford engine rebuilt with
only 431 miles on it, mated to a Tremec 5 speed manual transmission, and Ford
rear axle. Disk brakes in the frontand coil over shocks at all four
corners withBoranni-style, Daytonknock-off wire wheels with BF
Goodrich tires.
The ignition has been updated to an electronic
ignition (Petronix)that results in a much more reliable classic car
thatisa pleasure to drive with other modern updates to accompany the
period style gauges with convex glass lenses. A wooden steering wheel
complements the interior which is primarily finished in classic Ferrari tan
with a black leather dash board, center console also with period correct toggle
switches. The manual windows were converted to electric power windows and new
tempered glass. The doors are the
steel inners with the outside door in fiberglass whilst the trunk is also
steel, the rest of the body is fiberglass.
