1965 Harley Davidson Electra-Glide FL Police Special – 65FL13XXXHistoryThe motorcycle was purchased new by the Belleville, Ontario Police Department in 1965 (I have copies of old titles and contact info for 3 officers who rode it)) and was in regular service until the late 1970’s.  On March 11th, 1970, it was involved in an accident while practicing for a Police Motorcade for the arrival of Canada’s Governor General (see newspaper article attached).  The riding officer was able to slow the bike down to a near stop and guided it between the tires of the stopped tractor trailer minimizing any damage.  The spokes on the front wheel gave way damaging the front fender and leaving a golf ball sized dent in the front frame down tube.  The bike was given a new frame, front fender and wheel by Dafoe’s Harley Davidson and put back into service.  By the late 70’s it was being used primarily for parades and funeral processions and was eventually mothballed from around 1978 to 1994 when it was traded in on a new 1994 FLHTP motorcycle at Spanky’s Harley Davidson in Peterborough, Ontario (see newspaper article attached).  It had approximately 39,000 miles on it when it was traded in.
Peterborough Harley restored and repainted the machine making sure to maintain all of its original parts where possible.  The frame was powder coated, engine and transmission rebuilt and the entire motorcycle refreshed.  Once complete, it became part of the owner’s personal collection.  In the late 1990’s, the bike was ridden by Dennis Quaid in the movie “Frequency” (see pics attached).  The film studio wrapped the blue paint with red wrap and removed the saddle bags, windshield and engine guards.  I have copies of the rental agreement documenting its use in the movie.I purchased the bike in 2019 and went over everything to make sure that it was safe and fit to ride.  It received new Good Year reproduction tires, full service, carb rebuild with Rubber Ducky float, new battery, new acrylic windshield, new clutch pedal and friction discs and a safety inspection.  I also sourced a correctly dated original 1965 Frame, NOS neck lock, and hard to find 3.5 gallon tank triple trees to hold onto in case I ever wanted to swap the parts back over to a 65 frame.

This is a very rare, fully documented 1965 Electra-Glide FL Police Special with steering damper, tank shift and foot clutch, 4 speed with no reverse and 3.5 gallon tanks.  The 1965 was the first year for Electric Start and the last year for the Panhead engine.  Optional equipment includes Police Package and Chrome package 1.  Individual options include:  spot lights, steering damper, tank shift/foot clutch, saddlebags, chrome saddle bag guards, front and rear chrome engine guards (Police rear siren only), front and rear chrome bumpers, chrome luggage rack, chrome 16 inch wheels, chrome battery cover and Police speedometer.  The bike has 48,000 original miles with 10,000 on the rebuild, runs excellent and the paint and chrome are very nice.  The bike is super reliable and rides like a dream.  The bike still retains the frame that it received in 1970, but I will include an excellent original frame, NOS neck lock and the correct triple trees mentioned above with the sale.
