Seller Description

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE AD.I am reluctantly selling my green / black Kawasaki Z1 900 Road Racer. The bikes frame is 1974 the engine is a 1973. The bike runs great. I ran the bike when I first purchased it then I disconnected the battery, drained the fuel tank and carburetors. It is a conversation piece in my garage now.

I bought this bike locally and now I realize that I am probably not going to do anything with it. It’s a joy to visit it in the garage but it’s a shame to let it sit. Here is a short history:The previous owner found this bike in a barn in upstate New York in 1996. It was built in the 1970s and retired from racing in the early 1980's. The story is that this bike was raced in the AMA superbike series in the 1970's. the previous owner found some markings and frame tags but unfortunately the evidence was lost during restoration.I did find in the bike’s records, a handwritten note. The note said that the bike went 156 MPH at Daytona in 1978 George Beavers III from Darien Connecticut. Some of the paperwork suggests it was called the Green Meanie. The previous owner is an enthusiast and gave it a full restoration in the early 2000s. The goal was to return it to the conditionit was in when it was raced in the AMA superbike series (or as close as possible). A few things needed to be changed for it to be legal to race in the current vintage racing series. It was used from 2000 until 2005. The last time it was run in the track was at a track day at Thompson Speedway 2018.I have pages of notes from the previous owner detailing all the maintenance done during his time of ownership.Someone in the 1970's spared no expense to build this bike into a competitive AMA series superbike racer. A lot of additional frame bracing, the welds looks great. There is no kickstand, but it does come with a rear wheel stand. The Morris wheels are rare, and I have never seen another Fontana brake caliper outside of photos of late 1970's GP racers. The wheels are uncoated because one of the racing clubs required them to be crack tested every 2 years. Apparently, there is some concern in certain circle about magnesium deteriorating over time. These wheels were lab tested and are solid. I have the lab certification for the wheels.I have an oil catch belly pan which I will include with the bike so it will conform to vintage road racing rules. It has Wiseco high compression pistons and requires at least 105 octane racing fuel. Included is a full charging system and starter motor during the rebuild. The front forks look like '77 KZ1000. The bikes engine was gone through by Harrys machined parts (Rick Stetson) unfortunately I do not have receipts. There is some frame bracing on the steering head near the V.I.N stamp but it is still readable. The frame number is Z1F-42488 (1974 model). The motor # Z1E-16932 is from a 1973. I have a Connecticut title for a 1973 Z1 with the VIN Z1F-16655 I am sure that must be the original frame for that motor. It would be amazing to find it.This bike has a Massachusetts title in my name, so it would be easy to ship worldwide if needed. This bike is not street legal in its current setup. This bike has never been on the open market for sale. The few times it was sold it had traded hands privately. Bike's that were raced in the AMA superbike series in the seventies are few and far between and Z1’s are only going up in value and it would be hard to find one like this.See this list of mods below.1973 Kawasaki [hidden information]cc Road RacerWiseco 1045 Piston KitMegacylce 47025 Intake CamNorris 407 Exhaust CamNew Valves with Titanium RetainersBranch ported and polished HeadsHeads reverse bucketsLockhart Oil CoolerDyna III Electronic IgnitionDynatek DRL-200 Rev LimiterMikinu 28mm carbsAlluminum Velosity Stacks (filter pods are on the bike now)Kawasaki Close Ratio GearboxNew ChainNew BatteryPro-Cycle Electronic Tachometer (the speedometer gauge is not working)Supertrapp 4 into 1 ExhaustHigh Temperature Exhaust CoatingMorris Magnesium Racing WheelsFontana Magnesium Front Brake CalipersKawasaki Stainless Steel Front Brake RotorsCustom Steel Rear Brake Rotor by Kosman SpecialtiesAirheart Rear Brake Master CylinderLockheed Rear Brake CaliperSteel Mesh Brake LinesWorks Performance Racer with Reservoir Shocks on RearS+W Fork Kit on FrontFrame Braced and Strengthened1” Shorter SwingarmTapered Roller Bearings in SwingarmTelefix Fork BraceThe bike is SOLD AS IS no warranty. Please understand that you are bidding on a 46 year old vintage race motorcycle.
