On the heels of the Smokey & the Bandit phenomena and the success GM experienced with the 1978 Special Edition Corvette, Pontiac decided to celebrate the first decade of the Trans AM with a 10th Anniversary Edition. If that wasn't enough, this car also was the Pace Car used to lead 1979 Daytona 500, the first NASCAR race televised in its entirety, which Richard Petty won. It was also announced that this would be the last year the Pontiac 400ci Engine. immediately (within 12 hours) of making a Vehicle purchase or winning an
