I always wanted to try a first series Fireblade. I'm a rider, racer and restorer of 18 years so knew what this bike needed when I got it. Forks were leaking, tubes pitted, so I replaced the seals, bushes and the tubes. The rear shock was from a later model so I replaced it with a good original one. Handles and rides much better. Cleaned and balanced the carbs, replacing the throttle cables. Starts and idles brilliantly, revs and runs great and is a pleasure to ride. Quietest engine I've heard in 18 years and 100's of bikes I've had! Hard to believe it's done 79,000kms! May be rebuilt.

Pulls superb.See the videos of cold startup and the Remus muffler below:https://youtu.be/V3YClh9fTkchttps://youtu.be/fARZEupfopk
May have been used on the track, engine cases have fireglass as extra protection. Serviced with excellent Penrite 15w50 semi synthetic oil and filter. Ridden on the road for a little and it rides great. Did two sessions on the track at Broadford to test. It handled quite well and pulled great. Saw 220kph on the back straight. Has a Metzler on the front which actually works quite well, and a Michelin Pilot road 4 (I believe) on the rear which is a very good cold/wet weather tyre and works well.
Reason for selling is it's just too much bike for me to ride on Victorian roads. I prefer my 250's which are more suited to our speed limits. I also prefer a more sports touring position that super sports. We've just bought a 1993 CBR600F2 which we're going to try and think that might be a better option. While this bike was good on the track, again, I prefer my small light little 250's at Broadford where we mainly ride. It would be great at Phillip Island but as I don't ride there often, it doesn't make sense to keep it for that. I also have a Period 6 1988 VFR750F which is good at PI.
This bike would suit someone looking for a first series Fireblade who's happy to have a very good mechanical bike with some rougher cosmetics. Or spend $600 on a new set of fairings and transform the bike into whatever you want it to be. Could very easily be turned into a 'tri colour' first series fireblade, tank is plain white so would suit very well. I've also liked the Rothmans colours and like the way this one looks. The wheels are rough and really could do with repainting if someone was going to restore it. It's no show bike, but would make a good base for someone if that's what they wanted to do.
For a road worthy certificate, it would need the side stand switch reconnected, clutch switch connected and rear disc replaced. Personally, if I were to keep it and ride it as Honda intended it to be, I would replace the tyres with Bridgestone S21's. The best you can get for the 16" front wheel. And unless you're going to race it hard and need full track rubber, this will be as good as you can get anyway. Swapping to a 17" front really isn't necessary.
