Seller description

For sale: 1998 Honda CB50V aka Dream 50 street bike
The
good, bad and the ugly…
This
bedraggled bike was offered locally for sale, which is a rarity in
itself, being that these bikes were never imported into the US.
Reported production was about 8,000 according to the Honda home
website in Japan.
Despite
their very cool, retro-racer styling, the bikes were restricted in
Japan to 60kph due to regulations on 50cc motorcycle classes. So,
despite the 13,500 rpm redline, the bike’s performance potentials
are severely restricted. The DOHC, 4-valve cylinder heads sit atop a
5-speed lower end and feature a regulated CDI ignition system. A
shift drum sensor detects when the transmission is shifted into one
of the higher gears and then retards the spark timing to prevent
over-speeding the bike. Also restricted are the exhaust system, with
elaborate baffling and the tiny 15-16mm carburetor.
Electrically,
the bike was a fully-functioning street machine with speedometer,
tachometer, turn signals and horn from the factory. The bike rides on 2.50x18” tires
mounted on aluminum rims. Disc brakes are featured on both wheels.
Honda shows 81kg or 178 lbs for the vehicle weight (dry).
