Seller Description

This is a one-owner 2006 Mark V GTi with 120,800 miles and full maintenance records. The car has no modifications to the interior or exterior. It has been adult-driven, never tracked or raced.
I bought a new Mark VII last year and need to go ahead and sell this Mark V. It’s a great car, I’ve had four GTi’s (a VR6, a 1.8t and two 2.0t cars) and can honestly say that this one is the most balanced and easy-to drive. Power-to-weight and chassis tuning is spot on. This was the first year of the Mark V GTi’s in the US, they were assembled at VW in Germany, high-water mark if you ask me. This car had no options on it, so the clearest expression of the Mark V.
This car would make a great daily driver, or could be the basis for some track modifications and make a great SCCA car.
In short, the car’s fundamental mechanical condition is very good. It could use some cosmetic work. I am describing it as best I can so that you know what the condition is. If you have specific questions, please make an inquiry and I'll reply as soon as possible.
Exterior
Generally, this exterior cleans up pretty well considering the car’s age.
- No collisions, but overall small chips and scratches are present from street parking
- Driver’s side door has temporary repair where paint had been chipped
- Front and rear bumpers have scratches
- Hood has temporary repair to chipped area above emblem
- Lower bumper valance scratched.
- Driver’s side bottom hinge area needs cleaning and repaint. This is a notorious leaf trap on Mark V cars. Passenger side looks fine.
- Missing whip antennae
- I’m including a set of Thule chains, used these in two snowstorms, work great but kind of a bear to put on
- No sunroof, no problem
Interior
Overall in great shape, the fabric holds up much better than the leather that you see on some cars. There is some color fade, but fabric is strong and flexible.
Seats and carpets
- Seats in good condition. No deformation of foam substructure.
- Minor rubbed area on driver’s side bolster, due to ingress/egress
- Seat cushions in good shape, fabric fully intact.
- Passenger carpets in good shape
- Driver’s seat does not slide forward using the backrest lever (an expensive fix that I could live without)
- Passenger and rear seats rarely used
- Carpets and headliner in good shape
- Trunk carpets in good shape
- Keyless entry fob battery is dead, one valet key is the only working key
- Glass is all original, no chips or cracks anywhere.
- Original AM/FM with in-dash 6 disc changer fully functional
Dash and door surfaces
-Touch surfaces around driver’s side door handle and center stack are worn, exposing substrate plastic where soft touch finish has worn
-Carpets in good shape. Monster Mats in front and back as well as original set. The original driver’s mat is quite worn though.
- Electric windows, mirrors, turn signals all work fine
Mechanical
Well maintained by VW dealerships while under warranty and by Tyrolsport afterwards.

- Engine is amazing. Great pull through all gears and absolutely no signs of engine wear. Car has always had 93 octane fuel and oil/filter changes. No check engine lights.
- Transmission shifts smoothly through all gears, up and downshift.
- Clutch is smooth and predictable, no slip
- AC works, but is not very cold. Perhaps needs a coolant recharge. The compartment fan is only working on setting 4, no flow on 1-2-3 setting.
- All electrics and sensors working except for wiper fluid warning is on, despite fluid reservoir being full.
- New coils and plugs
- Timing belt replaced at 93,000
- Cam follower, fuel pump, top camshaft replaced, valves cleaned at 57,000 miles
- New Bosch battery
Suspension
- No suspension modifications
- This car has never been in an accident
- Suspension is true, tracks straight without correction input at all speeds
- Steering is quick and car feels very agile, no play at all in steering wheel
Wheels, tires, and brakes
- Original 17 inch wheels ( note plastic center cap laminate is flaking), some curb rash on each wheel
- Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 at 108,000 miles (18k left on warranty)
- New front brake pads and rotors, 2016
- New back brake pads and rotors, 2012
-ABS stops quick
- Handbrake works too
- Full size spare with the best Potenza tire from previous set
