What you have there is a super cool paint and trim combo, matched up with some great options to make a very enjoyable and well optioned GT.
Genuine XB GT Hardtop. All original from nose to tail. Untouched since 1985, a true original that hasn't been totally messed with, which is so rare these days when every second GT that comes up for sale is the wrong colour, has the wrong motor, the wrong trim, cut and shut, modified, raced, restored beyond original (and asking you to donate a lung to pay for it). This is one for the enthusiast that is wanting to do a resto on a honest un-molested GT Falcon Hardtop in a really good combo that will hold it's value. Honestly when was the last time you saw a genuine matching numbers GT for sale in a truly desirable combo?
This GT rolled off the production line on a cool Winters day in June 1974 (So it's one of the more desirable pre-pollution GTs).
At that time, as it is now it was painted in the ever popular XB GT hero colour Red Pepper. When you say GT, everyone pictures a red one.
The trim was B2, Black vinyl with cloth inserts. This one was treated to a dealer spruce up during pre-delivery and has the stylish crushed velvet inserts on the seats (There are several other GTs that were known to have left the dealer like this, but if you prefer you could easily retrim them back to the factory woolen style inserts, in fact they may even still be under the velvet, if so they would likely be in great shape). Regardless you don't have to sit on hot sticky vinyl when your out for a summer cruise. The factory air con would keep the family happy on those days as well.
The engine was, like all XB GTs the legendary thumping 351 Cleveland. Being an auto it was originally fitted with small port heads (as All XB GTs were other than 73 manuals and a tiny handful that crept into early 74). However the ORIGINAL engine was given a full rebuild with a bit of a tickle back when the car was being painted, at that time it has been upgraded to the golf ball swallowing 4V big Port heads with matching intake manifold, so whist not strictly as per factory you'd be hard pressed to find someone that didn't consider that to be a worthy period correct upgrade. Should you really want it back to small port heads we will happily pop the big port 4V heads & intake off and refit some factory correct small port open chamber 2Vs with matching small port square bore GT intake manifold. The engine is in the engine bay safe for transport however it is not setup to run currently, it's still wrapped in plastic from it's previous rebuild (as it was built for the previous owner the exact specs are unknown, but I suspect it to be putting out a few more ponies than it did originally, either way I'd suggest opening it up and refreshing the gaskets etc as it's been sitting for awhile since being built). 100% ORIGINAL MATCHING ENGINE BLOCK, not a restamp, THE block that left the factory in THIS GT.
Trans is the factory fitted FMX auto (currently out of the car as it was going to be given a quick service prior to getting the car running, happy to offer a good price on having the box checked over).
Diff is of course the original factory fitted front mount caliper disc brake LSD 9" with tramp rods. This has never been out of the car.
All steering and suspension are the original items (It only got 10 years or driving prior to going into hibernation so I wouldn't be surprised to find most of the parts are original).
Body is all original, ever panel is as it left the factory. Included in the sale is a very clean XB GT bonnet as the one on the car has sustained some minor damage whilst in storage, fixable, but a replacement was purchased in preparation for an upcoming restoration (it is a correct early XB GT type bonnet with the extra holes in the bracing).
The body does have some rust, but the upside is the car hasn't been bogged up made shiny and wearing a $150k price tag with no idea what's under the paint. The rust (in my opinion) is minor for a car that has sat in storage for 33 years), but then I've had over 75 hardtops so I've seen some real shi...ters and I've also seen a few mint bodies. I would rate this body in it's current state as 7/10. I won't sugar coat it and gloss over the work needed in order to surprise you on collection (pics are available to any genuine buyers). The rust that is present is in what I consider to be the normal XA-XC hardtop rust areas, nothing in weird spots that make you wonder WTF is it rusting there
The rust could all be repaired and have the car on the road quite quickly, personally I think being a GT it warrants a full resto, but if you want to do a touch up and drive it then it's all doable without being a full bare metal rotisserie build.
There is some rust in the lower rear 1/4s, inner and outer (all in the bottom couple of inches, well within the area replaced by one of the great reproduction sections now available, no not the rare spares ones, the hand fabbed stuff from Kustom Garage, etc).
The sills don't look too bad, just some bubbles in the last couple of inches, personally I'd do the whole sills, but you could easily get away with a small patch if you wanted to get it on the road and do a more thorough restoration down the track.
There is some holes in the parcel shelf, only small, but will need repairing (replacement sections is available but I'd personally repair what's there). Have a look at the pic above, if your at all familiar with hardtop bodies, that's better than most that haven't already been repaired.
Front lower wheel arch (dog leg), all within the black out area so it's not extensive.
Drivers side roof gutter (not the whole thing, just a few inches).
Passenger door shut above the striker, small bubble there about the size of a thumb print.
A few crusty spots around the boot seal, mostly just flakey from sitting for so many years.
Passenger lower door has some bubbles at the rear edge.
Other common rust areas like the plenum appear to be very clean and no previous repairs, body is overall very straight and the paint would present quite well with a polish if you wanted to go the quick clean up and rego path in the short term. Note the car was dealer fitted with a vinyl roof but that was removed in 1985 thankfully so no rust on the roof.
That's all I can see. I personally think it's a lot better than it sounds but the best thing is that it's an honest car, it hasn't had 45 years or random repairs and touch ups. The panel gaps are really good, the panels are all original and there are no signs of old repairs and never had an accident. Rad support is original, all factory spot welds everywhere, you'd be starting with a good honest none messed with body (there honestly isn't many of them left these days).
If your wanting an XB GT Hardtop to restore and this car doesn't excite you, I wish you luck on what's bound to be a very long and patient wait as GTs in these specs don't come up very often. (And yes I've looked at the dozen other XB GT hardtops that have been for sale in the last year, either in person or in pics, I honestly don't think any of them compared with this car, some had less rust but none matching engines, some had matching engines but cheap tart up resprays with who knows what under the paint, some were the wrong colour and you'd be surprised at how many of them got sold without the buyer even realising the body had been changed or the engine restamped. This car will pass any inspection on it's authenticity.
Every original part that was on this car when it left the factory is included with the sale, either fitted or neatly packed inside the car. All the seats are there (yes the rear seats is the correct original GT seat with arm rest), the GT dash is fitted to the car, dash pad is good, door trims are there (though a little warped from years of storage), all stainless is there, console, all lights, GT grille (the grille has been partially restored, as in repainted, that's the only restoration work that has been undertaken on the car in the last 33 years), driving lights are there, I can't see anything missing.
All glass is original, power window motors and switches are all in tact and fitted, Air con parts are included with the car, GT brake proportioning valve is in place.
Even the radiator is the original still with it's FOMOCO stamp on the top, that along is an extremely rare item.
The car was not intended to be sold, however a recent purchase of another vehicle has meant this one needs to go to clear a car space. As such the car hasn't been detailed prior to sale, but hopefully in the next couple of days I'll spend a couple of hours and piece it back together so that it's easier to see it's all complete.
I'm making no stipulation on "I know what it's wurf", it's a no reserve auction, I've laid out the specs, facts and my opinion on the car, your welcome to express your own by entering a bid for what the car is worth to you, but please don't bid unless you have all of the following criteria:
a) Have the funds available, cleared and not waiting for a settlement, the wife's approval or an inheritance from your great uncle Herbert that you didn't even know about until a recent email from Nigeria.b) Your wanting to buy this car, upon the sale of the auction and not just bidding for the quick rush of endorphins that you get from winning an auction.c) Your ready for the awesome feeling of knowing you own a genuine XB GT Hardtop
And sorry for the average pics, taking fresh ones this week (These pics are current, just not great angles), additional pics are available upon request, personal inspection is of course welcome, the car is in storage but can be made available on a hoist for inspection at an arranged time.
Any questions feel free to ask. At this stage I'm happy to let the auction run it's course unreserved to be sold to the highest bidder.

HOWEVER if you feel your heart can't take the pace of a nail bitting bid to the last second I will entertain serious cash offers. If your a genuine buyer then you'll have looked at others sold in recent months and have a fair idea on the value of a car like this.
As it seems the way these days on ebay I should now spam the listing with words that are somewhat irrelevant to this car purely in the hope of popping up in the search results of some other vehicle that is unlikely to compare. Some examples of said spammy keywords: XA GT, XC Cobra, Falcon coupe, project, barn find (yes it's a barn find, not a shed find, it's a generic term not a literal one, Monaro, Torana, commodore (those of you that were searching for those, open your eyes, get yourself a GT and your love life will improve, no guarantees implied, but it's likely to work), GS, RPO83, mens socks, muscle car, mustang, I want a real GT that I'm not scared to open the bonnet of or take to the nationals incase it started life as a brown 6 cyl….
