Seller Description
Royal Enfield Bullet 500 ES, registered 1st July 2008
I’ve decided to sell my Bullet simply because it’s not being used.
One of the very last original’ iron barrelled bullets.I’m the second owner of the bike and have owned it since August 2017.
At the moment it has 13028 miles on the clock although the clock reads approximately 10mph faster than actual road speed so mileage is actually less!
It’s last MOT was 19th June 2021, since then it has covered 27 miles, again - according to the Odometer.
In my ownership I’ve carried out a few jobs, new chain, new cylinder head gasket (the original started to weep) and regular servicing. The down pipe once had the ugly boss which was connected to some sort of emission control device, this has been removed and the down pipe replaced.
I also removed the original enclosed breather system & collection pot, in its place I’ve added my own simple breather system which works really well, the bike never drops any oil whatsoever.Additionally, even after standing for a considerable time, it doesn’t suffer from wet sumping, provided the engine is left at TDC.
Recently I added some black bullet style indicators and brand new trials type tyres to give it a bit more of an edgy look, these have done about 27 miles also.
I also replaced the decompressor lever with a new one, the original just didn’t seem efficient to me, it never felt great and I was sure that it was keeping the decompressor open slightly at times, the new lever is a lot better (I still have the original parts).
It has the Hitcocks oil filter housing spacer which fills some of the void inside the filter thus taking less time to fill after an oil change, additionally it has a magnet fitted to remove any metal particles
The indicator wiring has not been butchered, original connectors are still in place. I have the original chrome indicators, a seat pad which can be added for pillion (the rack needs to be removed though) and the original dual seat with grab rail, all of which are in very good condition.
The bike has been ultra reliable in my ownership and never missed a beat, apart from a time when the main jet became blocked.
I’ve used the bike for a few trips, and for camping in Wales which was great fun, even through torrential rain the bike performed faultlessly.
Within the last 500 miles it has had -Engine oil changeOil filter changeFork oil drained & replacedGearbox drained & filled with the correct slimy’ oil/greaseChain lubricated & tensionedNew Numax battery
I was in two minds whether to give the bike a good scrub and polish before putting it up for sale, on reflection I thought maybe not, so that it can be seen in its honest state.
Chrome is good, paint is good with no damage, it could just do with a good polish.
There is one negative about the bike and that’s the sprag clutch.Ever since owning the bike it has been noisy when using the electric start. The electric start does work although often with a clatter.I contemplated converting the bike to kick start only, as that’s how I usually start it, Hitchcocks supply a kit to do the job properly.Again, upon reflection, I thought that it would be a shame to alter the bike, plus, for anyone that might struggle kick start the bike it makes a nice option (also at traffic lights if you happen to stall it!!).
The kickstart works perfectly well.
I have the original bill of sale and a lot of documents, handbook, workshop manual etc and two sets of keys.
A video of the bike running is available here-

This was filmed Sunday 21.11.21. I also have another video of the bike in my channel from a few years ago.
Sorry, no test rides and no buy it now.
Collection only from Bury, greater Manchester.

As mentioned in the description above, if you are planning to use the electric start facility, please bear in mind that investigation, more than likely repair work will be required!I'd rather be as honest and as open as possible about this to avoid disappointment.
Any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks for looking.
