The Alfa Romeo Spider is a luxurious front-wheel drive sports cabriolet of the Gran Turismo class, co-developed with Pininfarina.
This model was first shown in 1994 in Paris. The two-seat Spider with a reclining soft top follows the basic design elements of the Alfa Romeo GTV. The exterior design of the car is made in a traditionally dynamic style: branded triangular shield with chrome edging; body-colored bumpers and side spoilers; wedge-shaped body with smooth, deep lines; large doorway; half-elliptyheadlights; a slight rise in the area of the rear wheel, turning into a slightly raised rear part of the body. The convertible top is electrically operated and operated by a button on the center console. The Spider is equipped with a regular-sized spare wheel that can optionally be replaced with a wheel repair kit and an electric compressor, increasing the boot capacity by 45 liters.
The standard equipment includes: leather interior trim, power windows (automatic from the driver's side), external electric mirrorsohm and heating, central locking, control system for checking the closing of doors and trunk, "smoker's package". In addition, the special equipment includes Momo leather upholstery in red or blue.
Safety is determined by the body structure itself: there is an internal frame under the hood lining, which provides the necessary rigidity and strength. The structure is made of composite material KMS, the components of which are polystyrene resin and carbon fiber. Frame and casing are joined togetherwith another epoxy.
The convertible top of the Spider is secured with five brackets to the aluminum frame; when the top is lowered, the front brackets fit snugly against the top of the windshield for good aerodynamics. The material of the removable top itself has two layers: outer (made of fireproof fabric), inner, with excellent sound insulation properties.
Cars are equipped as standard with seat belts with pretensioners and driver's airbag, electronic speed limiter.
Alfa Romeo Spider cars are equipped with discservo-assisted brakes and four-channel ABS from Bosch. These are front-wheel drive models with transversely positioned petrol and diesel engines (2 twin spark plugs per cylinder) and with manual transmissions only. Motors with a working volume of 1.8-3.0 liters with a capacity of 144-202 hp.
Modernization in 2001 mainly affected power units, the number of which was reduced to 2. Basic versions are now equipped with 2.0-liter "fours" with a capacity of 150 hp, and more high-speed - 3.0-liter engines of 220 hp.
In 2002, the appearance of morepowerful JTS engines with 165 hp. and a new 3.2-liter "six" of 250 hp. The new bespoke equipment for the Spider includes a Blaupunkt satellite radio navigation system with a CD-based map data carrier. The high-end audio system is offered with a 10-disc CD changer. Standard equipment includes two front airbags, as well as genuine leather upholstery with chrome metal trim.
In 2003, the model was restyled. The car has received an updated exterior designand an improved interior. The Spider is an example of a typically Italian approach to sports car design: expressive body stamping and an oblique cut to the trunk. It is immediately evident - a car with style and character. It is noteworthy that on cars of this year of production, the soft top is devoid of an electric drive. Almost the twin brother of the Alfa Romeo GTV, the Spider is naturally endowed with similar technical characteristics - excellent maneuverability, easy handling, environmental friendliness, comfort and safety.awn. The debut of the sixth generation of the sports convertible Alfa Romeo Spider took place in 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show.
