The Plymouth Acclaim midsize front-wheel drive sedan was produced at Chrysler's plants in Newark (Delaware) and Toluca (Mexico) from 1989 to 1995. The predecessors of the Acclaim were the Plymouth Caravelle and the Plymouth Reliant. This car was also called the Dodge Spirit, and similar models were the Chrysler LeBaron and Chrysler Saratoga.

Acclaim has changed little in its six years of production. At the base of the car's design was the Chrysler AA platform. The dimensions of the 4-door 5-seater body were 4602/1731/1410 mm with a wheelbase of 2624 mm for the first generation cars. Second generation cars (1991-1995) were 52 mm lower, the base decreased by 5 mm. Front wheel track - 1463 mm, rear - 1453 mm. The curb weight of the model is 1262 kg. The luggage compartment volume is 408 liters.

The basic equipment of the Acclaim was better than that of the "twin" Spirit, including, but not limited to, finishing materials. Externally, the Plymouth version featured chrome moldings, radiator grilles and headlights. There were three types of equipment for cars manufactured in 1989-1991: basic, LE (middle level) and LX; since 1992 in the production program there was only one equipment option, but with the possibility ofinstallation of various options at the request of the buyer: electric sunroof, radio, power windows, central locking, cruise control, etc.

Since 1993, the Acclaim has also been offered with the Gold Package, which includes gold-painted alloy wheels and gold-plated moldings. In Canada, these cars were the best-selling Plymouth models. In total, the company offered 26 body paint options (of which 18 were metallic) with extravagant names. Such, for example, as Glamor Turquoise Metallic (Glamor turquoise metallic).

Per modelgasoline in-line 2.5-liter 4-cylinder 8-valve engines were installed: base TBI I4 (102 hp / 4800 rpm, 183 Nm / 2800 rpm), supercharged Turbo I4 (150 hp) - from 1989 to 1992, as well as a V6 Mitsubishi 6G72 with a volume of 2.972 liters (141 hp / 5000 rpm, 232 Nm / 2400 rpm). All motors were overhead valves with an overhead camshaft; 2.5-liter - with central injection, 3-liter - with multipoint fuel injection; installed in the front transversely. The consumption of AI-92 gasoline in the urban cycle for the 2.5 liter version was 9.8 liters, for 3 liters - 10.4 liters per 100 km, and the volume of the fuel tank was 61l. In 1993-1995, a modified 2.5-liter engine was offered for Acclaim, running on 85% methanol fuel.

A small part of the engines were aggregated with a 5-speed manual transmission, and the bulk of the cars came with a Torqueflite 3-automatic transmission of the A413 or A670 type. Since 1992, most V6 versions of Acclaim have been fitted with the A604 4-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission.

The front independent suspension consisted of a double wishbone, coil springs and a transverse stabilizer. The back included notsplit axle beam, springs and transverse stabilizer.

The brakes on the Acclaim were ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum at the rear. ABS was available as an option. The standard tire size is 185/70 R14.

The 1991 Plymouth Acclaim was ranked as one of the most reliable American vehicles by JD Power, behind only the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The Acclaim was the last model to be unified with Dodge and one of the last to be fitted with a 4-cylinder powertrain. On December 9, 1995, production of the Plymouth Acclaim was completed, its successorbecame the Plymouth Breeze.
