Mitsubishi Pajero is an off-road vehicle. It was first introduced in Tokyo in 1981. The first generation for the ten years of its existence practically did not undergo any changes.

The angular design of the body, the straight edges of the body panels, accentuated by the powerful bumper and durable underbody protection, underline the exceptional off-road qualities of the car, timeless. Along with a three-door all-metal closed body (4015x1680x1870 mm), a version with a soft convertible top was also produced, but it is a special populshe did not use fierceness because of her utility. Later, very popular long wheelbase (2695 mm versus 2350 mm) five-door station wagons and a pickup (4605x1680x1955 mm) appeared on the market.

The salon is pretty simple by modern standards. Tilt steering column. The soundproofing of the body is quite effective. Rearward visibility is only satisfactory thanks to the huge exterior mirrors. Two independent air conditioners on the five-door version create the desired microclimate.

The trunk of the short-wheelbase Pajero, lined with carpeting, up tois quite small. But if the rear seat is folded down and moved forward, even a two-compartment refrigerator or a large TV can be put in the trunk through the tailgate that opens to the side. There is enough space in the cabin for comfortable seating of people up to 195 cm tall.

Suspension front torsion bar independent, rear leaf spring dependent.

Since 1982, all Mitsubishi Pajero have been equipped with an 84-power turbo diesel with a working volume of 2.3 liters, as well as a 2.6-liter gasoline power unit with a capacity of 103 hp. In October of the same year, they were joined by a new 95-horsepower turbodieselb with the best torque characteristics. In addition to these engines, for export to Europe, 2.0-liter power units were also installed on the Pajero, which, in the carburetor version, developed 110 hp. and in the injection-turbocharged - up to 145 hp.

Since January 1987, only gasoline versions have been equipped with catalytic converters, and with the launch in September 1989 of a 92-horsepower turbodiesel with an intercooler and 3-liter 111-horsepower V6 injection engines, the environmental issues of Pajero engines have ceased to bother buyers in Europe at all.however, the gluttony of the petrol version (up to 20 l / 100 km) remained a serious problem.

In some export markets, Pajero was sold under the names Montero and Shogun. The first generation was not in great demand. The unpretentious chopped shape and the overly simple design of the Pajero all-wheel drive did not contribute much to the success of the model in the world market.

The next generation, which appeared in January 1991 with a modernized body and a new transmission, was recouped for the failure of the progenitor. The second generation was enthusiastically received all over the world. Basic constAt the same time, the adaptive solutions remained the same: a powerful spar frame, front independent suspension on wishbones and longitudinal torsion bars, the rear one remained dependent, but received springs instead of archaic springs.

A thoughtful and successful design, excellent dynamics, good handling and excellent cross-country ability allowed Mitsubishi Pajero to boldly enter the elite of expensive SUVs.

Many attribute the popularity of the 1991 Pajero to its extraordinary appearance, which differs from the generally accepted canons of off-road design. FriendI do not note the comfort and driving characteristics of Mitsubishi. Still others are confident that success is in an advanced drivetrain.

They began to install a new all-wheel drive Full Drive transmission on the car, the operating modes of which (from the drive only to the rear axle with automatic disengagement of the front axle gearboxes to the all-wheel drive mode with locking the center differential and engaging a downshift) can be changed with a single lever on the fly. As a result, the driver can easily select (and control thanks to the indication on the panel of theoor) the transmission mode that best suits the specific road conditions.

On request, the Pajero can also be equipped with a cross-axle differential lock.

Pajero was produced with 3 and 5-door bodies, the latter had a base increased by 30 cm and was usually designated as Wagon. It was manufactured in 5-seater and 7-seater versions. The three-door version was also produced with a fabric folding roof over the rear seat and a large sunroof over the front.

Since 1994 it has been equipped with new engines - diesel 1.8 TD and gasoline 3.0-V6.

Onlybut in 1997 the company decided on restyling, however, carefully preserving the basic stylistic idea. In Europe, such cars have been on sale since 1998. Pajero got "inflated" barrel-shaped wings. Variants with narrow wheels and the same fenders continued to be admitted under the name Pajero Classic.

Since the fall of 1997, the 3.5 V6 GDI engine began to be installed on the Pajero.

The carpeted trunk of the short-wheelbase (3985x1695x1800 mm) Pajero, unfortunately, is still small even with the rear seat folded down. This drawback, however, is not inherent infive-door station wagons with an increased roof height (4565x1695x1850 mm). The cabin can comfortably accommodate up to five passengers with a height of 189 cm. But there is also a 7-seater widened model Semi High Roof Wagon (4820x1775x1850 mm).

The shape of the instrument panel is rounded, and now there are no corners on it (like on its predecessor). All devices are informative and clearly distinguishable, plus, well-thought-out illumination of the entire cabin and (even the pedal assembly is illuminated).

The complete set with an altimeter, an inclinometer and a thermometer showing the temperature overboard has been preserved. These are useful (emptynot and mountains) devices are located on top of the console and covered with a separate visor. All heating and ventilation controls are very convenient. The steering column is adjustable. The seats are quite comfortable and the backrests have lumbar adjustment.

All windows are electric, the sunroof is also electric. The rear part of the passenger compartment is heated by an autonomous heater, the operation of which can be regulated by the passengers themselves. The steering is pretty informative. Clutch and gearshift clarityone hundred exemplary. The all-wheel drive system works flawlessly. Mitsubishi Pajero moves in a straight line steadily. The ABS brakes are very effective and, despite the "soft" pedal, are very accurate.

Under the hood can be a 150-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 (from April 1995) and a 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 with 208 horsepower. (since April 1994), which in urban conditions is one of the most economical among its kind. The 125-horsepower 2.8-liter turbodiesel (13.5 l / 100 km in the city) is commendable for its economy. Injection 2.4-liter 111-horsepower engineeh may seem rather weak to some, but behind the 3.0-liter 24-valve engine with 177 hp. (since 1997) the reputation of not being very reliable has been established.

The dynamic data of Pajero impresses with the flexible traction characteristic of turbodiesels and V-shaped injection "sixes", as well as well-chosen transmission ratios.

In the fall of 1999, the third generation of Pajero cars appeared (sales in Europe began in 2000). Over the previous 18 years of its life, the model has gained a good reputation for its excellent driving characteristics.on roads with any surface and excellent comfort.

The third generation Pajero is significantly different from its predecessors. Frame-carrying bodies have become more rigid, new spring-loaded front (on wishbones) and rear (on longitudinal and transverse levers) independent suspensions are used.

The five-door modification of the III generation Pajero has become 100 mm wider than its predecessor, 70 mm longer and 45 mm lower. This version can comfortably accommodate seven people. The short 3-door version has a wheelbase of 2,545 mm and has abridge of 5 people. The salon is equipped with a folding third row of seats.

Pajero III engines, respectively, have different characteristics, there are even carburetor versions. In the last years of production, the third generation was equipped with the following petrol engines with injection: 2.4 l (145 hp), 3.0 l (177 hp), 3.5 l (194, 208 and 280 hp) .), as well as a 3.5-liter (245 hp) with direct petrol injection. Diesel engines 2.5-liter (85 and 99 hp) and 2.8-liter (125 hp) were turbocharged.

This generation is equipped with a powerful 3.2 DI-D direct injection turbodieselfuel, a 3.5-V6 GDI petrol engine, a Super-Select SS4-II all-wheel drive transmission with a planetary center differential, a five-speed adaptive gearbox INVECS-II Sports Mode, independent front and rear spring suspensions, and a monocoque body with a high-strength integrated frame.

The Pajero has a memorable body design and a rather attractive interior. The car is comfortable and convenient, the driver's seat is ergonomically designed. Instruments often include a compass, altimeter, and body roll indicators.

UroThe set of the Mitsubishi Pajero III is traditionally high and, in addition to the mandatory four front and side airbags, includes leather upholstery, an automatic climate system, stereo equipment with a CD changer, etc.

In 2004, the third-generation re-styled Mitsubishi Pajero entered the battle for the hearts and wallets of buyers. Technically, the updated version is no different from its predecessor. Changes affected only its appearance and interior.

Thanks to the round fog lights andthe new bumper shape, the modernized Pajero turned out to be more fit and aristocratic. Changes also affected the radiator grill: its wide chrome edging and the corporate red emblem were replaced by a thin and neat "edging" with a chrome badge. The rims of the updated SUV are 6-spoke, not 5-spoke, as in its predecessor.

More harmoniously combined with the body and new backlit footpegs, making it easier to get on / off at night. The side skirts on the doors are now not ribbed, but smooth, but repeatate turns - snow-white (instead of orange). The "feed" of the car got new lights and white turn signals mounted in the bumper. And the bumper itself was left without a wide chrome insert.

Pajero has balanced driving characteristics, excellent visibility, thanks to a high seating position and an advanced multi-mode Super Select 4WD-II transmission, which provides high cross-country ability and directional stability. The car is equipped with a 4-channel ABS integrated with electronic brake force distributionEBD, which together provides high active safety.

The Pajero body, created using Mitsubishi RISE technology, will provide reliable protection for the driver and all passengers in the event of an impact. The front and rear zones of programmed deformation dissipate the impact energy, and a very rigid monocoque body with a powerful integrated frame and safety bars in the doors form a power safety cage that protects people in the cabin in all situations. The safety system is supplemented by 3-point seat belts with pretensioners, frontand side airbags for the driver and front passenger.

In 2006, at the Paris Motor Show, the fourth generation Pajero was presented to the public. The family features have not gone anywhere: a characteristic step on the lower edge of the headlights (this was the case with the very first Pajero), almost vertical roof pillars, the rise of the window line in the rear, the shape of the doorways, the tailgate opening to the right. The body actually remained the same. The length, width and height have changed slightly due to the new outer panels. OnlyThe fourth generation inherited a quarter of the details, and the rest is its own.

Changes in the load-bearing structure of the body can be counted on the fingers: an additional transverse strength element under the rear seat, a different bend of the amplifier under the dashboard, an increased number of welding points at the junction of the engine shield and side members, the spare wheel mount offset to the center and down. Yes, also an aluminum hood. The new body has become more torsionally stiff, as a result, improved handling on asphalt.

The salon has been significantly redesigned. The interior has become more modern and fashionable. New dashboard. A large color display appears in the center of the new console. At the same time, the relative position of the controls has not changed. Finishing materials have become better. Soft plastic in a circle. The steering wheel is multifunctional. The steering column is adjustable for tilt only. The seats in the first and second rows are comfortable. The driver's seat in the version with an electric drive is equipped with five adjustments, including the stiffness of the lumbar support. The rear visibility has also improved markedly:the wheel was lowered by 50 mm. The trunk with the third row seats folded is enormous.

Basic equipment for the Russian market includes: climate control, CD receiver, alloy wheels, xenon headlights, manual rear air conditioning and cruise control. For the most expensive of the Russian versions (Ultimate), the prestigious Rockford Fosgate audio system, a rear-view camera and a navigation system are provided.

The GDI V6 3.5 l (202 hp) engine was replaced by a new petrol V6 3.8 l (250 hp) with a proprietary system of electronic control of gas phasesMIVEC distribution and variable intake manifold. This motor can only be combined with an adaptive five-speed automatic transmission INVECS-II Sports Mode. Pajero accelerates to 100 km / h in 10.8 seconds.

There is also a diesel option in the line of power units. The 3.2-liter engine has a new generation Common Rail fuel injection system and develops 165 hp. Moreover, for Russia, turbodiesels are supplied in a special adapted version for a cold climate and with an exhaust that meets the Euro 3 standards (for Europe and other countries - Euro 4). For TA manual transmission and a five-speed automatic transmission are provided for the diesel engine.

The front and rear suspensions are from the previous generation, but they have been reconfigured slightly to add a smooth ride to the car. Independent spring suspension: front with double wishbones, and multi-link rear.

The electronically controlled all-wheel drive system helps the driver choose the most comfortable driving experience. The proprietary SuperSelect transmission is now called the Advanced SuperSelect 4WD (SS4-II). She is still in front oflays four modes - rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, four-wheel drive with a locked center differential on the high row and the same on the low.

In addition to the reinforced body, the Pajero IV has inflatable "curtains" to protect the head. The standard equipment includes six airbags, and the front ones are two-stage.
