The history of the Octavia began in 1959. Then it was a simple, reliable car with a strong body and stable driving characteristics, with certain capabilities of that time, which earned many prizes at international competitions. The car has become popular not only in the "home" market, but also in Western Europe. The model was even exported to South America and New Zealand. Production lasted until 1964, when the brand new Skoda 1000 MB replaced the Octavia. Modification with a station wagon lasted for conveyere until 1971. In total, 365 thousand Octavia were produced from 1959 to 1971.

The second time Octavia appeared only in September 1996 at the Paris Motor Show. Serial production began in 1997. This model was a kind of "maturity test" for Skoda. After all, the Octavia was the first completely new model created after the transfer of the company under the control of the Volkswagen concern. It was also an application for a seat in a higher class, where Czech cars had been completely absent for the last half century.

Octavia was warmly received by the audience. First, oprahhopes of buyers were given that with the coming to the management of the Germans, the cars of the Czech company would acquire real German quality. Secondly, an attractive price was set for the car.

In the year of its debut, the Octavia was presented only with a hatchback body, and two years later, sales of the station wagon began, which has the additional designation Combi in its name.

The Octavia is based on the platform of the well-known Golf IV. But at the same time, the Czech car is overgrown in the golf class, because in its dimensions it is very close tosegment "D".

The Octavia stands out with its very roomy trunk. Its volume in the hatchback is 528 liters, and with the rear sofa folded down - and at all 1330 liters. With the sofa folded down, the Combi can hold a whopping 1,512 liters, with a maximum load capacity of 540 kg. Such outstanding performance was achieved not only by increasing the rear overhang, but also by reducing the living space of the rear passengers - if in the Golf IV people of average height feel more or less comfortable in the back, then in the Octavia they have a hard time, especially when the fronte seats are fully pushed back.

Octavia has several trim levels. The simplest is Classic (until 2000 it was called LX). It has nothing but an immobilizer, power steering and an adjustable steering column. The next in rank Ambiente (GLX) has a filling that is more in line with a modern car: central locking, power windows and electric adjustment of rear-view mirrors, an on-board computer, airbags, as well as, as a rule, an audio system and air conditioning.

The third version is called Elegance (SLX), besides eatingin the previous ones, it differs with cast wheels and extensive power accessories. The highest configuration of Laurin & Klement is "charged" to the maximum: leather interior, electric sunroof, 16-inch wheels, xenon headlights, parking sensors, rain sensor, heated front seats, chrome, aluminum and wood in dystrophy finish.

The driver's workplace meets all the requirements of ergonomics. Thanks to the adjustable steering column and the ability to select the desired driver's seat height, there are no problems finding the optimal driving position. The seed itselfit is moderately stiff, with good lateral support.

All Octavia engines are inherited from Volkswagen and Audi. Several four-cylinder injection gasoline units and turbodiesels were installed on the model. At first, the car was offered only with a hatchback body and with the following engines: gasoline 1.6 liters (75 hp) and 1.8 liters (125 hp), as well as a 1.9 liter turbodiesel (90 hp). ). A little later, a 1.6-liter gasoline unit with a capacity of 101 hp appeared. In addition to these engines, the car was equipped with 1.8 liters (125 hp), and since 2000, a fundamentally new environmentally friendly 1.4l (75 hp).

It is especially worth highlighting the modification of the 1.8-liter turbocharged engine with the 1.8T index, developing 150 hp. This unit is very popular among drivers who prefer an active driving style.

With the launch of the station wagon, the line of power units was replenished with another 1.9 liter TDI turbodiesel (110 hp).

In 1999, the all-wheel drive modifications of the station wagon debuted (the hatchback began to be offered in the 4x4 version only a year later). They use the 4-Motion all-wheel drive system. In it, the torque between the axles is distributed by the clutchHaldex with electronic control unit. In normal road conditions, it is all directed to the front wheels, but as soon as they begin to slip, it immediately partially spreads to the rear.

It should be noted that only cars with the most powerful engines - 1.8T gasoline and turbodiesel - were equipped with all-wheel drive. Even all-wheel drive versions have a different rear suspension - an independent multi-link.

Also in 1999, the line of power units was replenished with a new gasoline 2.0-liter engine with 115 hp.

In 2000Octavia has undergone a facelift and received an updated appearance: slightly enlarged headlights, a different radiator grill and new bumpers. Unlike the hatchback, the station wagon has the same taillights. The interior was also upgraded - the design of the rear seat was changed, resulting in an additional 40 mm for the rear passengers' legs. In 2001, the "charged" all-wheel drive version of the RS debuted with an uprated 1.8-liter 20-valve engine, developing 180 hp.

In 2004, Skoda introduced the second generation Octavia... The car was generously awarded with advanced technologies used by its German counterparts: engines with direct injection FSI, a robotic 6-speed DSG gearbox and a new multi-link rear suspension.

The first thing that catches your eye is the redesigned front end. New Octavia received a completely new head optics and a front bumper with a wide air intake, which visually enlarges the car. The look is solid and respectable. The interior has also undergone a number of changes. There is a new dashboard and centralconsole. Vehicle length is 4.572 mm, width - 1.769 mm, height - 1.462 mm.

Six months after the debut of the hatchback, the Skoda New Octavia Combi wagon was officially presented in front- and all-wheel drive versions. The main trump card of the new station wagon is a huge trunk. The cargo compartment holds from 580 to 1620 liters.

But the volume of the hatchback trunk in the normal state is 560 liters, but if you fold the rear seats, it increases to 1350 liters (the predecessor has 528 liters and 1328 liters, respectively). In addition, the Octavia has many compartments for small luggage.

OneThe new Octavia's strength is its loading height, which has been reduced from 696 mm to 674 mm. It is noteworthy that the full-size "spare wheel" is not included in the basic configuration, as on most European cars, but a resuscitation kit is offered instead.

The powertrain lineup consists of six engines: four petrol and two diesel. They are located transversely and drive the front wheels. From the previous version, the novelty inherited two petrol engines with a volume of 1.4 liters (75 HP) and 1.6 liters (102 HP), as well as a 1.9-litersmooth turbodiesel TDI (105 HP). To them were added two "Volkswagen" gasoline units with direct injection FSI with a volume of 1.6 liters (116 HP) and 2.0 liters (150 HP) and another turbo diesel TDI with a volume of 2.0 liters and a capacity of 140 l. with.

Depending on the engine power, a 5- or 6-speed manual transmission is offered as standard. And as an option, you can order a 6-speed "automatic" or a robotic gearbox DSG. The latter is only available for turbo diesel versions.

All New Octavias are equipped with EOBD (European On Board Diagnostics). Principleits work is based on the analysis of the composition of the exhaust gases. If the content of harmful substances exceeds the permissible limits, a red indicator lamp on the dashboard lights up, and information about the malfunction is stored in the computer's memory, which facilitates subsequent diagnostics at the service station.

The car received a new independent suspension: front with McPherson struts, rear - four-link (previously there was a semi-independent suspension in the back). The power steering has given way to an adaptive electric one, which changes the effort on the steering wheel in the factory.simplicity on speed.

The model is offered in three versions: Classic, Ambiente and Elegance. The basic Classic package includes two front and two side airbags, ABS, Brake Assist, disc brakes on all wheels, central locking, three-point belts on all five seats, a driver's seat with height adjustment, a steering column, the length and angle of which can be changed, two mounts ISOFIX. Passenger airbags can be disabled. The list of additional equipment is also impressive: xenon headlights, navigation system, ESP. For New Octavia Providedand a wide range of body colors (12) and interior finishes (5), as well as fabric or leather upholstery.

In 2009, the model has undergone a restyling. The updated version was shown at the Paris Motor Show in autumn 2008. The not too modern appearance of the Octavia A5, which has been produced since 2004, is becoming a thing of the past, giving way to a more presentable appearance. Excessive rusticity and adherence to the smoothed lines of the A5 were replaced by more stylish outlines of complex headlights and a radiator grille. A massive bumper complements the car's appearance, makingits imposing and imposing.
