The Chevrolet Beretta is a front-wheel drive coupe introduced by Chevrolet, a division of General Motors. The Beretta was manufactured in Wilmington, Delaware and Linden, New Jersey. The new 2-door coupe was based on the D-platform from General Motors. The Chevrolet Beretta was first introduced in 1987.

The exterior design was designed by Chevrolet Exterior Studio 3. The same studio also developed cars such as the Chevrolet Corvette and Chevrolet Camaro.

In total, 3 versions of the car were created in the history of the Chevrolet Beretta: standardnaya (CL), GT and more prestigious modifications GTU / Indy / GTZ / Z26. In 1990 it was the flagship racing model for the Indianapolis 500 miles. Chevrolet announced the appearance of the production Beretta in the back of a convertible, but it has never appeared on exhibition stands.

The Chevrolet Beretta GTU was a special version of the Beretta that was sold between 1988 and 1989. For its creation, the Beretta GT model (with z51 suspension package) was taken. It was equipped with new 16-inch aluminum wheels, a rear spoiler, new mirrors, a specialinterior trim and body stickers. The suspension received tighter settings, one of the reasons for this was the low ground clearance. Three body colors were offered for this version: black, white and red.

The Beretta GTZ was a top-of-the-line coupe that was produced between 1990 and 1993. Under the hood of the Chevrolet Beretta GTZ is a 2.3-liter High Output Quad 4 engine from Oldsmobile. Its power was 180 hp, and the maximum torque was 217 Nm. Also included as standard were: 5 speed manual gearboxGETRAG emitter and GM FE7 suspension (top models of GM PRO series suspensions). Acceleration of the GTZ to 96 km / h took 7.6 seconds. In automotive press reviews, the Quad 4 engine was noted to be noisy. It was noted as the most growling engine of its time.

In 1991, a 3.1-liter V6 engine appeared. Its power was 140 hp. However, such a power unit was only available in combination with a 3-speed automatic transmission. This combination had an effect on the acceleration of the car. Acceleration to 96 km / h with this equipment took already 9 seconds. Also such an enginewas available as standard on the Beretta GT models from 1990 to 1992, and as an optional powertrain on all standard Chevrolet Beretta and Beretta GT models in 1993. The engine has always been installed only in conjunction with a 3-speed automatic transmission.

In 1991, major changes were made to the interior. The car received a new dashboard, center console, and an airbag for the driver.

In 1994, the GT and GTZ models were replaced by a new version of the Chevrolet Beretta - Z26. The 3.1-liter V6 engine wasredesigned, and its new version was already named 3100 Series V6. The improvements resulted in a 20 hp increase in power. The engine power was now 160 hp. During the same period, the power of the Quad 4 was reduced by 10 hp. (170 hp). For the entire production period of the Chevrolet Beretta, the 2.3-liter Quad 4 engine has always been offered only in combination with a 5-speed gearbox.

In 1995, the 3100 V6 was reduced by 5 hp. and amounted to 155 hp, maintaining such values already until the end of production of the Beretta model.

In 1996, the 2-door Chevrolet Beretta coupe was removedthen with production. No new model was released to replace the Beretta.
