The first SUV in the history of the Porsche brand, called the Cayenne (a variety of pungent West Indian peppers), debuted in early autumn 2002. The car was created jointly by Dr. Ing. h. with. F. Porsche AG and Volkswagen AG. Volkswagen engineers designed the all-wheel drive transmission, while Porsche engineers designed the suspension and took over the chassis work. Almost after the start of official sales, the Cayenne became one of the brand's bestsellers, despite the rather high price. Production (more precisely, final assembly, since the body is manufactured at the plant in Bratislava)Beel is deployed at the new state-of-the-art Porsche plant in Leipzig.

The design of the Cayenne is in the same vein as the sporty Porsche 911. Characteristic features of the model include drop-shaped headlights, an integrated front bumper with large air intakes, widened "muscular" fenders and low-profile tires on 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels. All early-model versions (Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo) are distinguished by design nuances. For example, the top version of the Turbo has a higher bonnet compared to the rest of the versions with additional pdies for turbochargers and double central air intake.

Overall dimensions, mm: Cayenne and Cayenne S —4782x1928x1699, Cayenne Turbo —4786x1928x1699. Wheelbase, mm: 2855. Ground clearance, mm: base suspension —217; air suspension - from 157 to 273.

The interior of the car is made in the best traditions of Porsche. A lot of high-quality leather, always with embossed company logo, auxiliary systems and electronic settings. Aluminum and metallized plastic are widely used in the design (pedals, center console, frame selector box in fronth, door handles), which gives the interior a sporty charm. On the Cayenne, the dials are complemented by a large center display. This multifunctional device serves as a source of basic information, including a digital speedometer, digital clock, daily driving odometer and current radio station selection.

The seats are comfortable and equipped with a full range of electrical adjustments. There is plenty of room for passengers in the second row, both in width and for legs. The rear seat folds in a ratio of 40:60, forming a flat luggage compartment floor, the volume of which has taken awayrises from 540 to 1770 liters.

The Cayenne has power windows on the front and rear doors. If, when closing the window, a special sensor detects an obstacle, it automatically lowers the glass to prevent injury or damage. If several windows are open, you can close them all at the same time by keeping the key in the locked position.

Optional equipment on the Cayenne includes a new 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel. On the left side there are buttons designed to regulate the sound and control all audio systems.m and phone. On the right are the buttons with which you can receive calls, select radio stations or CD tracks.

The Porsche chassis is, however, reinforced with front and rear subframes to reduce vibration.

Suspension is fully independent at the front on double wishbones, multi-link at the rear. For the basic version of the Cayenne with a V6 engine, a variant with conventional springs without clearance adjustment is provided, and for the Cayenne Turbo, as standard (as an option for the Cayenne and Cayenne S), there is a complete set with an air suspension, which allowschange the ground clearance in the range from 157 to 273 mm. Thanks to the Porsche Active Suspension Management system, you can adjust the ride comfort, for which there are three modes - Comfort, Normal, Sport.

Transmission scheme: permanent all-wheel drive with center differential with electronic blocking and range-to-multiplier, optional rear differential lock. In normal operation, the differential distributes torque in a ratio of 33:62, however, in the event of wheel slip of the front or rear axle, the clutch redistributes it between the axles from 0: 100 to 100: 0 depending onfrom road conditions. In the event of wheel slip on one of the axles, the PSM dynamic stabilization system comes into play, and off-road, you can use the lower transmission row and forcibly lock the center differential.

Porsche has developed a new braking system based on the latest technology. The Cayenne is equipped with internally ventilated discs to ensure constant braking temperatures and, accordingly, has optimal dynamic performance, even on long runs.skins on the slopes. The front discs are clamped by 6-piston monobloc aluminum calipers, which are complemented by 4-piston calipers at the rear of the vehicle. All four calipers are titanium lacquered.

The Cayenne meets all existing requirements for all types of impact protection, including frontal, side, diagonal and rear impacts, as well as rollover protection. The body has a triple skin structure. Laser-welded robust construction provides exceptional rigidity and protection for the occupantthanks to the extremely sturdy roof and pillars. A system of side and cross members at the front of the vehicle helps redirect impact energy that is absorbed by the 3-section crumple zone, protecting the interior. One of the special characteristics of the Cayenne is the use of multi-phase steel. Providing a unique combination of exceptional stiffness and strong resistance to deformation, these springy alloys fulfill basic safety requirements.

The Cayenne has 2-phase airbagsfor the driver and front passenger. The front airbags are complemented by a new side impact protection system with side airbags installed in each front seat. The curtain airbags provide optimal head protection for both rows of seats. Two additional sensors are integrated in the front bumper of the Cayenne to detect potential head impact hazards. The airbags have a two-level gas filling function to reduce the burden on passengers. Both front airbags withthe opening uses an azide-free gas, which is based on an organic fuel.

The Cayenne has 3-point seat belts and belt tensioners and belt force limiters.

Passive safety is extremely important, especially when it comes to children. This is why Porsche has developed a special range of child seats for all age categories. Each seat can be fitted to the front passenger seat or to the rear seats using standard ISOFIX mountings.

The base Porsche Cayenne is powered by a 3.2l / 250hp engine. OnThe Cayenne S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 340-horsepower unit with a volume of 4.5 liters. This engine develops a maximum torque of 420 Nm at 2500–5500 rpm. Acceleration to "hundreds" takes 7.2 seconds, and the maximum speed is 242 km / h. The top version of the Cayenne Turbo has a 4.5-liter, 450 hp twin-turbocharged engine. The maximum torque of 620 Nm develops at 2250-4750 rpm. With it, the car accelerates to "hundreds" in 5.6 seconds, and its maximum speed is 266 km / h. In addition, the Cayenne Turbo offersoptional Power Kit package, with it the engine power rises to 500 hp. The future owner can choose between a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission.

In January 2006, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It is based on the Cayenne Turbo. The key difference is the boosted up to 512 hp. engine. This result was achieved by installing a larger intercooler, as well as increasing the boost pressure by 0.2 atmospheres. In addition to increasing engine power, these measures also made it possible to increase the maximumth torque of up to 720 Nm, which are already achieved at 2750 rpm. From zero to one hundred kilometers per hour, the Cayenne Turbo S accelerates in 5.2 seconds, and its top speed reaches 270 kilometers per hour.

Following the engine, Porsche specialists modified the SUV's braking system by installing 380 mm brake discs in front instead of 350 mm ones, and the rear 330 mm ones were replaced with 358 mm ones. In addition, the basic equipment of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S includes 20-inch wheels with low-profile tires.

B is equipped withThe new top-of-the-range SUV now also includes bi-xenon headlights, leather upholstery, a powerful audio system and even a tire pressure monitoring system.

At the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche unveiled the second generation Cayenne. The car is based on the Volkswagen Touareg platform, using Panamera components. The SUV has become slightly larger than its predecessor. The length of the model has increased by 40 mm, but the weight has decreased by 165-200 kg (depending on the version and configuration).

The exterior design is in the same vein asand the first generation of the model. However, the Cayenne II looks more dynamic and muscular (wedge-shaped silhouette, special shape of the C-pillar, bulges on the rear spoiler, rear window tapering at the bottom, etc.). The 2010 model features smaller air intakes and redesigned headlights and taillights.

The interior is completely redesigned, the dashboard and center console are styled in the Panamera style. The rear seat can be adjusted by tilting the backrest 6 degrees and sliding it 16 cm.The trunk volume has also increased with the previous models (670 liters versus the former 550 liters).

Under the hood is a modified 3.6-liter V6 petrol engine with a capacity of 300 hp, with an improved fuel consumption of 20%. In a combined cycle, a car with such an engine consumes 9.9 liters per 100 kilometers. This was achieved thanks to special developments - a direct petrol injection system and a continuously variable valve timing system at the inlet and outlet. The Cayenne S version is equipped with a 4.8 liter V8 engine with a capacity of 400 hp, while the Cayenne Turbo version usesthe same engine, but with a twin turbocharging, 500 hp. Both V8s are 23% more fuel efficient.

The diesel 3.0-liter V6 engine, which debuted on the Porsche Cayenne in 2009, migrated to the new model without changes - power 239 hp, torque 550 Nm, however, due to the installation of a new gearbox, acceleration time to 100 km / h decreased to 7.8 seconds. Fuel consumption was reduced to 7.4 liters per 100 km.

The 2010 Porsche Cayenne is also presented for the first time in a hybrid version (Cayenne S Hybrid), which consists of a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine from Volkswagen with 333 hp, and 45.5-strong electric motor. The total power of the hybrid is 380 "horses", and the maximum torque is 580 N • m, and 580 "newtons" can be obtained already at 1000 rpm. The maximum speed is 242 km / h, the acceleration to “hundreds” is 6.5 seconds. The average fuel consumption of such a car will be 8.2 liters per 100 km. The price to pay for economy is a 90 liter luggage space reduction.

The transmission is an eight-speed automatic Tiptronic S, which is paired with a stop-start system. A 6-speed manual transmission is offered only for entryVersions with a 3.6 liter engine.

All cars are equipped with the all-wheel drive system Porsche Traction Management, which has become the hallmark of the manufacturer. It combines active all-wheel drive with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch, traction control, and imitation of interwheel differential locks.

The Porsche Cayenne is the perfect combination of excellent off-road performance and excellent driving dynamics.
