Seller Description

Time to sell my 80 FI Spider - Rescued the car Jan 2014 from CA and made the car road worthy over the span of about 2 years after it had been sitting for 20+ years .....too much to list regarding what was done to the car but here are a few details ..... work was done 2014, 2015, and 2016
..... have had a 76 Tr7 and an 80 Tr7 in addition to this one. Drove both cars cross country more than one time...... This is a genuine fuel injected "California market" Spider .... only 500 or so of these ones were manufactured..... 32,247 original miles
- Rebuilt Engine with just a few hundred miles on it- New injectors - New sensors- New pressure regulator- NOS OEM dist. wires - Period correct fog lights and covers ..... correct wiring connectors were sourced along with the correct coloring on the wires from British Wiring ..... original fog light brackets were sourced- "Euro style" front turn signals- Hella H4 style headlights - Some new air conditioning components (never got around to fully making the AC functional although the compressor does kick on most of the time when the dash switch is pulled)- New fan belt ..... squeaks at times and just needs to be tightened- NOS heater control knobs ..... took me forever to find 'em .... not the "painted reproductions)- Took the cassette player to a specialist and he went through it ..... yes it works and plays tapes - Original speakers were allegedly redone .... one is missing half of the "sticker" for some reason- New visors in excellent shape ..... yes the mirror on the pass. side can actually be used- New visor "rubber holders"- Oil pressure gauge installed and works great- New Brake Master Cylinder- New 205 60 13 TOYO tires ..... few hundred miles on 'em (they do make the car a bit harder to steer when not rolling)- New AVO fully adjustable shocks in the rear- New custom wound stiffer and lower springs in the rear (there is about 1" of clearance between the top of the differential and the bottom of the bump stop) ..... sometimes you can feel the differential hit the bump stop in the rear) ..... I wanted the rear very stiff ..... original springs and shocks come with the sale- New front TR8 rotors with a set of used TR8 calipers- New pads if I recall correctly- New back plates for the TR8 caliper conversion- New Brake hoses- Rebuilt rear wheel clyinders- Wheels were re-done by a specialist up in SLC ..... the lug nuts show a little hint of rust on 'em- Center hardware for the steering wheel was plated w/ a nickel black plating- New poly shifter bushings ..... think I was not able to reach one or two of 'em in the front via reaching through the transmission tunnel- New "blue" steering shaft bushing in firewall- Found NOS key blanks and had new keys cut- Sourced the key for the "reset box" below the BMC- New convertible top from Prestige Auto Trim ..... professionally installed in still in excellent shape- New battery last week (will include the receipt from the supplier for the 1YR warranty)- New wiper blades ..... sourced what I believe to be the correct ones- Powder coated the "trim piece" below the wiper blades and found the plastic snaps to hide the hardware on the "ends"- New Transmission mount- Rebuilt CMC- 99.

9 % sure I replaced the clutch when the engine was out of the car- The front springs were cut down a little so the car had a lower stance (plan was to stuff in stiffer springs and adjustable front shocks like I did for the rear but never got around to it)- New tie rod ends- Gas tank was put through the "Renu" process with a local supplier near SLC- New glass door seals but for some odd reason the stupid things seemed to "shrink in length" after installation .... small gap visible- New tire on the spare in the trunk- New "unleaded fuel only" sticker on the plastic gauge covering- Glass in excellent condition- New seat covers from UK ..... real Spider seats are underneath but (just like all spiders) need to be recovered
What works on the car ?- Basically everything except for a few things - trunk shocks could be replaced ..... RH one is disconnected for some reason - Antenna needs to be replaced but it is there .... hard to collapse and un-collapse though - Air conditioning needs to be serviced/tested/etc - LH or RH turn signal is a little slower than the other one - One of the "rubber door caps" needs to be replaced - Clock was working at one point but decided to die again
Small things that work on the car that sometimes do not work on 7's:- Interior door lights .... they are a little "finicky" but do work in both positions- Door buzzer- E-Brake light- Low Fuel light- Cassette player- Trunk light- Door locks- Truck lock- Glove box lock- Washers- Lighter and the "orange light" when the parking lights are turned on- both rubber straps in the trunk (one holds the spare tire, one holds the jack)- the little flap that always breaks off in the fuel neck ... still in place and working
What is the paint like ?..... from what I can tell, the car has never been re-painted ..... the paint has a wide range from bad to almost perfect ..... the worst part of the car is right behind the convertible top and even that can be fixed with minimal effort ..... tried to capture this in one of the pictures..... the car is the correct maraschino black. The paint is not the best and does have some "spider checking" throughout the car ..... would not take too much effort to re-spray the car (planned to do this to make the car that much better but never got around to it)..... car does have some dings and dents throughout the body from surviving this long
Any rust on the car ?none to speak of .... the very bottom of the spare tire holder has a little towards the "front" .....small hole there (all 7's seem to rust here) ..... car was a CA car and has spent the rest of its life in Utah.
What parts come with the car ?Original rear shocks (can chase down the original springs if the buyer wants)Original backing plates, calipers, turn signal lights -..... some of the original sensors, spare coil, new CMC rebuild kit- NOS Spider decal set and some reproduction Spider decals ..... correct reflective material (was planning on painting the car and using the NOS set to bring it to near perfection but never got around to it)- Haynes book and good condition user documentation- New AC compressor (sourced the correct one from being a member of TWOA) for a few years ... smaller unit compatible with the "current refrigerant"- Everything that you see in the pictures comes with the car
Does the car have the infamous "55MPH shake" ?A little yes ..... took the car on the highway the other night and it cruised 85 MPH no problem
Why are you selling it ?- want to focus more heavily on a different project. Someone out there will enjoy the car more than I have. I have a passion for European cars and love the details in 'em**Have done my best to describe the car. Please understand the car is a used car made in 1980 ..... car is not perfect. Car could be absolutely immaculate without too much work
